Gateway Center of Monterey County, Inc. (Gateway Center) is a private, not-for-profit, community based organization which provides a wide range of services, including residential care, developmental training, and activity programs for adults, ages 18 and over, with intellectual disabilities.

Our mission is to serve adults with developmental disabilities.  We fully support their individual rights and choices, and empower them to live full and productive lives with dignity and independence within their community.

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

Gateway Center has been providing Residential Services since 1975.

Intermediate Care Facility DD/Habilitative (ICF1 and ICF2)

 Gateway operates two 15-bed ICF’s for adults with qualifying medical needs. ICF’s provide 24- hour comprehensive and personalized care and habilitative services which promotes maximum independence in a secure and safe home setting.

Reindollar Care Home, Level 4i

Our 4-bed residential care home is located within the community of Marina, providing 24-hour care and supervision for individuals aged 18-55. Residents receive the individual support they need in all areas of daily living.

Supported Living Services

Supported Living Services is a program that provides life skills training and support services to individuals within the comfort of their own home. Life skills training and support  includes but is not limited to: Money Management, Health and Safety, Personal Hygiene, Social and Personal Skills, Mobility Training and Leisure/Recreation. Supported Living may provide services to a consumer up to 24 hours, 7 days a week. A consumer is eligible for services, regardless of severity of disability. Services may be provided for an indefinite period of time. Home seeking and staff hiring are included in the services.

Independent Living Services

Independent Living Services is a program based solely on training. Life skills training includes but is not limited to: Money Management, Health and Safety, Personal Hygiene, Social and Personal Skills, Mobility Training and Leisure/Recreation. Service hours are limited to an average of 30 hours of training per month. Based on a consumers needs, an increase of hours is available. A consumer is eligible for services based on his/her ability to actively participate in the training provided. Training hours are provided with the objective of fading out services. Home seeking and staff hiring are included in the services.

This service is available for individuals still living in the family home or on their own.

 

DAY PROGRAM SERVICES

The Adult Development Center (ADC)

The Adult Development Center was established to provide training in the areas of self-help skills, socialization, sensory awareness, self-advocacy, arts and crafts skills, and community integration.

Community Based Program (CBP)

The Community Based Program was established in 1996 to provide total community integration with a focus on socialization, self-advocacy, safety skills, and community and educational enhancement opportunities. Delivering lunches for Meals-on-Wheels, volunteering at the Salvation Army, serving lunches to the homeless, and growing vegetables and herbs in our Community Garden in downtown Monterey are just a few of the things we do.  The Community Based participants are proud to give back to the community.

Senior Day Program (Pacific Grove)

Senior Day Program (Pacific Grove and Salinas)

The Senior Day Program was developed in response to the growing number of seniors with intellectual disabilities residing in Monterey County. The emphasis of our Senior Day Program is on providing social and recreational opportunities, maintenance of self-help skills, advocacy, and age-related health and emotional issues in both community and classroom settings. Some of the senior program activities include having lunch and playing bingo at the Salvation Army, visits to the Steinbeck Library, shopping, arts and crafts activities, daily exercise programs, games, music and movies

Without Walls Program (WOW)

Our WOW Program was developed in 2017 in partnership with Pacific Grove Adult Education and Monterey Peninsula College Transition Program to meet the needs of adults transitioning out of the classroom setting. The program is designed to meet the individual needs and preferences of each student, emphasizing continued education; community integration; relationship building and socialization; pre-vocational experience and development of independent living skills in a classroom setting.
